Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 70

Nothing done on day 69 - we helped my MIL move, so the day was busy.

Today I started the November Block-of-the-Month which is bramble stitch.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 66 - 68

Three more days finishes up the October Block-of-the-Month for the KAL.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 65

Gasp! No knitting today! I actually thought I was going to have no make at all to share, but I was wrong. We've been having trouble with Sarah's night-time diaper leaking, so I sewed up this new cover out of fleece. Hopefully this solves the problem & I'll make a few more. Washing the sheets almost daily is getting old quickly.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 63 & 64

I started working on the October block-of-the-month for the year-long afghan. I'm a little behind again, but want to try to finish the blocks before the end of the year. Putting them together is another story.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 62

Nothing too exciting, I managed to finish a second peace washcloth today.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 61

So close on the afghan square! But while knitting at swimming lessons with only 4 rows left to go the end of the yarn popped out of my bag! I hadn't looked at what was left recently, so was surprised when I ran out. I do have more of that yarn, it just wasn't with me.

I did have washcloth knitting with me though, so here's "Peace."

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 60

Made a lot of progress on the afghan square today. I hope to finish it off tomorrow.

Thursday, October 29, 2009

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 59

I started the next baby afghan square and finished about a third of it.

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 58

I finished the stocking today! Next step is to fill it up with 24 gifts and mail it by November 16th.

Ken & I also finished Joshua's bat costume, but I still need to take a picture of that.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 57

Now I'm ready to start the toe decreases. This is knitting up very quickly.

Monday, October 26, 2009

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 56

Now it's beginning to look a bit like a stocking...

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 55

I worked more on the fair isle bag that will no longer be a bag today. When looking at it I decided that it would work nicely as the stocking I'm supposed to be making for a swap I'm in. That was a nice bonus to make that decision and realize I had about 6" done when earlier in the day I had no idea what pattern I'd even use for the stocking. DH was skeptical that I was going to turn this bag into a stocking with no pattern. Details! It will be no problem at all I'm sure.

The view out back last night was particularly pretty.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 54

I went to the Stitches East Market in Hartford today. I took a one-hour class in Fair Isle knitting. I was hoping for some help with using one yarn in each hand, but the class was much more basic that that. Oh well. Our practice piece can be turned into a little bag. I'll have to decide who gets it when it's finished.

I also got to knit on the Big Sock attempt at a Guinness World Record. The rest of the afternoon was spent wandering around looking at piles upon piles of yarn.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 53

I forgot the cast on instructions for the next afghan square when I went to gymnastics, so I couldn't work on that. I did have the makings of the Love washcloth with me though. I cast on when we got there and was just about to bind off when Emily came out of class. This is part of the Peace, Love & Happiness washcloth sets I'll be making for some quick Christmas gifts.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 50, 51 & 52

I took the pictures, but didn't manage to post daily. The cabled heart block is now finished. I managed one repeat each day. Now I just need to block it to its proper dimensions. (58g used)

Monday, October 19, 2009

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 49

More Eunice socks - today I finished the gusset decreases and also realized I'm missing the last page of the pattern. I got this one from a friend, so I need to wait for the rest of it.

I started another afghan square. (I think these things are never-ending!) This one is cabled hearts and I finished one repeat.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 48

Back to the Eunice Socks today. I finished the heel flap, turned the heel and knit about half the gusset.

No Make 'n' Tell Today

I was up and on the road very early today headed to the NY Sheep & Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, NY. It ended up being a beautiful day and I was inspired by all sorts of wooly goodness.

Though I didn't manage to actually create anything of my own today, my daughter Emily did. She made a corn husk doll.

And later she knit a row of this scarf.

Yes, the knitting needles were almost as tall as she was - what fun!

Friday, October 16, 2009

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 46

I finished the socks! In time to wear them to Rhinebeck (without staying up all night to finish)! And I bought cool new shoes to show them off too.

I'm pleased with how they turned out. They match the sweater perfectly, but I won't use this yarn for socks again. It was rough on my hands knitting it at an appropriate gauge for socks and had very little stretch.

No picture of the new shoes yet, that will have to come later.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 45

The camera at my picture! I took it, went to upload, no pictures. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come with my camera.

Anyway, the second sock is about halfway through the gusset decreases, which means it is about half done. Not quite as much progress as I had hoped, but the goal is still within reach.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 44

After some serious, all-day knitting we finally see some real progress.

And yes, that does mean I did not vacuum or put the laundry away. The children did get fed though.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 43

Must. Knit. Faster. At least I'm past the heel, but this is still the first sock...

Monday, October 12, 2009

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 42

Moving along on the sock, but not very quickly...

Sunday, October 11, 2009

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 41

First a broken needle, then the sock doesn't fit! So I tried on the sock before knitting more today & it wouldn't go over my heel. I'm knitting this yarn at a pretty tight gauge and with the high cotton content there isn't a whole lot of stretch to it, so I had to rip it all out and start over.

I cast on again, going up a needle size and adding a pattern repeat. I managed to complete 9 pattern repeats in length, so I'm very slightly further along than yesterday. And I have 5 knitting days left - better get busy!

Saturday, October 10, 2009

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 40

I'm up to 8 repeats on the February Lady sock, making some progress. I managed to break the tip of my KnitPicks wooden needle in the process though, so I had to switch to my metal double points.

No further progress, but here's where I am on the Eunice socks.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 38 & 39

Not much time for creativity on Thursday, but I managed to unknit the heel flap and reknit half of it. Friday I finished the heel flap. I had to set that sock aside so I could cast on for the February Lady Socks that I want finished before Oct. 17th. I cast on the first sock, knit the ribbing and first two pattern repeats. Photos tomorrow, I forgot to take them today.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 37

Still working on the mystery knit. The most recent instructions have me knitting an additional 16". I'm almost there and the strip will be 30.5" long when I finish this step. Any guesses? I could search on Ravelry and figure it out from the suggested yarn given, but I'm trying to be good and let it be a mystery until the end. What will this thing end up being?!?

I also finished the second repeat on the sock and knit 13 rows of the heel flap. Here's a tip - trust your intuition! I was at knit night when I started the heel flap, which has a charted pattern. The very first row I looked at it and said, "that's wrong". Then I looked at it some more, figured they must be doing something I couldn't yet see and knit 13 rows. I looked at it just as it was time to leave. "That's definitely wrong!" The center cables were reversed (knit where there were supposed to be purls & purls instead of knits). Stupid pattern. I came home & checked online - sure enough, there was errata for the pattern. What I initially thought was wrong was, and if I did what I knew I should have done I would not have to rip out those 13 rows & do them again. Oh well.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 36

More sock today, almost through the second repeat. I'm still recovering from this past weekend & couldn't keep my eyes open quite long enough to finish.

I also swatched for a pair of socks to match the February Lady Sweater I finished on Day 5. I'm going to try to use the leftover yarn from the sweater, which isn't ideal, so I needed to figure out what needles to use. I want to finish these before the NY Sheep & Wool Festival on October 17th. (So I really need to cast on soon to have any chance at all.)

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 35

Today I got caught up on the mystery knit. I have no idea what it's going to be. It's now 14" long and about 2.5" wide. The yarn I chose has mohair in it, so it's pretty fuzzy. Unfortunately, that means the cable doesn't show up very well.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 32

I worked on my sock on the way to Otherworld, so now I have one repeat of the pattern completed. No crafting done on Saturday or Sunday- much too busy having fun!

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 31

Tie-Dye! with our homeschool co-op today. Pictures to follow after the items come out of the wash.

Mystery knitting, Day 4.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 30

Wow - Day 30 already! I finished Sarah's new shirt and skirt from the 2XL shirt.

The top portion of the skirt is actually one of the short sleeves from the original shirt. The bottom edge became the waistband. I cut a small slit in the hem of the sleeve and threaded elastic through it. The new bottom edge I left on the curve of the sleeve and added another piece to make it longer. Then I took and added a ruffle to the bottom.

I haven't sewn them together yet, but I also cut out a pair of pants. So from one shirt Sarah gets a shirt, skirt and pants. This has been a fun project - thanks Laura for the idea!

I also did the next day on the mystery knitting project, but only managed a half row on the sock (how pathetic!).

I've had a great time with the Make 'n' Tell Challenge. I finished some projects that had been languishing for quite awhile, tried some new things, and got to see some fabulous work from my fellow participants. I'm going to try to keep this up as much as I can, though I will probably always post the day after the make. Taking night photos just ends up with crummy photos (no my projects are not finished early enough for daylight photos). I'm away this weekend at Otherworld, so there will likely be no makes for Saturday or Sunday. I'll be way too busy having fun!

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 29

Today was an eclectic day. I worked some on transforming Sarah's giant t-shirt...

Cast on for a new pair of socks...

And joined in a mystery knit. I don't know what it will be, but it's only supposed to take one skein of yarn (150 yds) and requires 2 buttons.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 28

I finished the September block, so I'm caught up just before October's is posted.

Sunday, September 27, 2009

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 26 & 27

Day 26 I managed to finish August's afghan block.

And Day 27 I started September's block. I may actually be caught up on this before October 1st.

Make n’ Tell Challenge: Day 25

More knitting while waiting at the doctor's office and gymnastics today.

And then at dinnertime the kids got creative. Joshua's Big Backyard magazine had a recipe for tuna boats, so the kids got to make dinner.

Prepping the masts

Stirring the tuna

The finished boats!

Pirate Joshua added a cucumber life boat

Grape tomato sailors and cucumber life preservers were creative additions not included in the magazine.
